Eco Friendly Fitness

Happy Earth Day! We love the great outdoors and you can often find us hiking in the hill country, swimming in the ocean, paddle boarding in the lakes, and cycling and running across the miles of beautiful trails and greenways that fill our beautiful city. In fact, Mother Nature makes a great “gym,” and while you don’t need to buy a membership, you do need to pay your dues by doing your part to preserve and protect our environment. Here are a few ways you can celebrate Earth Day that will keep you, and our beautiful planet happy and healthy for years to come:

Get Moving: Walk or ride your bike whenever possible to work, school, to run errands…not only will you cut down on harmful carbon emissions, you’ll also cut down the pounds!

Squat Down and Pick Up: When you’re running, walking, hiking in our city’s trails and parks, squat and pick up any litter you see along way. It’s an easy way to keep your parks and your posterior looking pretty.

Ban the Bottle: Stop buying bottled water! Not only does the manufacturing process use a large amount of fossil fuel and water, the bottles are not biodegradable, and they may contain harmful BPA, a chemical that has been linked to several health issues including cancer. Furthermore, only about 1 out of 5 bottles is actually recycled, which means the rest end up in our landfills and oceans. Buy a reusable aluminum, glass, or BPA-free plastic bottle like Nalgene instead and fill it up from the tap. Better for the planet, your body, and your wallet.

Consider Your Clothing: We know you like your fitness gear to be fashionable, but you should also consider whether or not its eco friendly. Many of our favorite companies offer cool, comfortable clothing made from eco friendly and recycled materials. We like the EcoMesh collection of men’s and women’s tanks and tees from Austin based Outdoor Voices. Not only is it “green” it’s local!

Clean Up With Clean Products: We love body wipes for a quick fix post sweat and GoodWipes Body Wipes are not only oversized, they are made from natural ingredients and are 100% biodegradable. A cleaner way to clean up.
