Food On The Go!

In a perfect world, we would eat organic, fresh foods made by our favorite local chefs at every meal. But in the real world, between meetings, after school activities, and trying to fit in a workout, you sometimes find yourself hitting the drive-thru just to keep from getting "hangry." Don't beat yourself up--- we’ve all been there! In fact, the fast food drive thru doesn't have to be the enemy. It is possible to find something healthy at most restaurants--you just might need to make a few modifications.

To help you out, here are my favorite meals from three different San Antonio restaurants that won’t completely ruin your healthy eating habits. Check them out the next time you find yourself having to eat on the run.

Bill Millers BBQ

#6, Salad De-Lite Bar-B-Q Chicken All White w/ Italian Dressing

Stats: 640 Calories (430 From Dressing) // 42 Grams of Protein // Price, $8

This meal is one of my favorites because you can find a Bill Millers on almost every corner! This meal comes with a ¼ chicken (I request all white meat), and a generous size side salad. You can see that the majority of calories come from the dressing, so ask for it on the side or leave it off entirely and replace it with oil and vinegar when you get back to the office or home. That one change takes this meal down to only 220 calories! Make sure you order this with a large water and avoid their sweet tea, even though it is tempting!

Chipotle

Salad Bowl w/ Carnitas, Lettuce, Guacamole, Black Beans, Grilled Veggies & Fresh Salsa

Stats: 625 Calories // 35 Grams of Protein // Price, $9

What I love about this meal is that it’s simple, delicious, filling, and you can customize it to your liking. You can also order online and enter the time you want to pick it up--very convenient! When they ask if you want dressing, tell them no and substitute their guacamole instead.

Grilled Chicken Cool Wrap

Stats: 350 Calories // 37 Grams of Protein // $6

This wrap is basically a salad wrapped in flat bread. Filled with carrots, avocado, cabbage and chicken, it's perfect for when you’re on the go! If you want to reduce the fat and calories, ask them to leave off the cheese. And, If you're craving something sweet to go along with it, grab a side of fruit to add to the mix.
