Wes and I are both goal setters by nature, driven by a desire to push our limits both personally and professionally. We are always challenging ourselves to beat last year’s time, learn a new skill, take on another project/client, volunteer for a cause etc etc. In fact, it’s really difficult for us to say “no” to things we are passionate about. That’s why one of our new year’s resolutions is to find more ‘balance,’ and more time for self care so that we feel our best and can give 110% to anything we choose to take on. It’s not always easy—sometimes it actually has to be built into our schedules. Sometimes phones have to be silenced or, better yet, turned off. But it’s necessary if we are going to be the best friends, parents, spouses/partners, trainers, athletes, and people we can be.
Blocking out time in your day or week to focus on nothing but you and your needs isn’t selfish—it’s a must if you want to avoid burnout. As Wes is so fond of saying, “If you want to be around to care of the ones you love, you’ve got to take care of yourself first.” Here are some of our favorite ways to take a time out---feel free to share some of yours too!
