He Said/She Said: Keeping Your New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year! We know that many of you have made resolutions for things you want to accomplish in 2019--and we have too. In this month's He Said/She Said, we're sharing three of our resolutions and the steps we are taking to make them a reality. We invite you to share yours in the comments and if we can help you reach any of them, please let us know--let's make this our best year ever!

He Said:

Resolution 1 - Lose the Sweet Tooth: I let myself indulge a little too much this holiday season so I'm going to kick the cravings by eliminating as many processed sugars during the month of January that I can. I'm not a believer in completely eliminating all sugars because fruits, although they contain sugar, are also filled with a variety of nutrients and fiber. With moderation, I'll eat a cup of fruit as my dessert guilt-free. If anyone else is interested in cutting out processed sugars let me know, we can start a challenge!

Resolution 2 - Going For a Run: Cross training with weight training, cycling and running is one of my favorite things to do because you teach your body to adapt to different physical and mental conditions. I didn't do much running in 2018 so I'm going to make the time to get in at least three miles per week. I'll start off with an attainable goal and then build from there.

Resolution 3 - Finding My Zen: Last year I had a lot of anxiety and stress that I didn't allow myself the time to deal with. I kept thinking I'll just push it aside and eventually it'll go away. This year I'm making my feelings a priority and will take 10 minutes at least three times a week to reset, breathe and clear my mind.

She Said:

Resolution 1 - Get A Handle On My Nutrition: Sweets are my downfall and like Wes, I definitely overdid it this season. As part of getting back on track, I want to learn more about nutrition, so I have enrolled in a Sports Nutrition certification course that I am hoping will give me a better understanding of how, when, and what to eat to fuel workouts and maintain energy levels. Plus it will be nice to have the knowledge to share with my clients.

Resolution 2 - Take On A New Challenge: Thanks to a broken bone, I did not get to participate in any of the endurance sports I enjoy in 2018--and it's left me really antsy to do something to challenge myself and get the adrenaline going again. Soooo, I've decided to get back on a plan with my tri-coach and aim for the Half-Ironman in Waco in Oct. We shall see.....that's a lot of swimming y'all!

Resolution 3 - Reconnect IRL: Being your own boss is great--but it's easy to get sucked into working all the time, and I find myself constantly plugged into some device either writing, e-mailing, texting, or just mindlessly scrolling. My plan is to try and stop what I'm doing every evening, unplug, and spend a couple of hours rediscovering things I enjoy--like reading. I also want to try to take at least one weekend day to unplug from everything, freelance jobs, side hustles etc. and enjoy reconnecting through more playtime and activities with my family and closest friends.
