New Year New You, A New Outlook On Life

It’s officially February and we can say we survived the beginning of a new year. With a new year comes new resolutions, goals, and challenges to take on. For me, the new year meant the start of one of the most important challenges I’ve had in the past few years.

On January 2, I was blessed with an amazing opportunity when I won the New Year New Me challenge held by Zedric’s Fit With Flavor, Orange Theory Fitness Huebner, and BodyArchitecture Personal Training and Fitness. I was given 30 days of healthy meals and snacks, a 30-day pass to work out at Orange Theory Fitness Huebner, and two training sessions a week with the trainers at BodyArchitecture. Sounds like a dream doesn’t it? It turned out to be my salvation.

For the past three years I have been sitting at home making excuses for myself, and telling myself that “tomorrow” or “Monday” I would start working out, start eating right, start doing something to make myself better or happier. But the “right” day never came. It took this challenge for me to realize that every day was the “right” day---it was me that wasn’t ready. You can’t be ready in your head and not be ready in your heart if you want to make a change. If your head and heart aren’t in synch, you can’t fully commit. So with my head and my heart, I jumped in.

Because my meals were being prepared for me, I didn’t have to really think about food. With one less thing to worry about, I was able to focus on my new routine of waking up, working out and fueling my body with what I needed so that I could repeat that every day for the next 30 days—and hopefully the rest of my life.

The Zedric’s food was amazing! There wasn’t anything that wasn’t delicious and good for me. After the first week I had more energy during the day, and I wasn’t hitting that afternoon “slump” I used to experience. I was happy with the portions and felt full all day.

The Orange Theory workouts were definitely a challenge, but the trainers were always there to help. They thoroughly explained how to modify the exercises so that I, a person that hadn’t worked out in a long time, could do it.

The training sessions with Wes and Bonny of BodyArchitecture were a dream come true. These two people took time out of their own schedules and dedicated it to help me better my life.

It wasn’t an easy month. There were times I had doubts. There were times that I wanted to eat something that was not part of the program. There were days when I just didn’t “feel like doing it. ” But when I thought of the reason why I started all of this in the first place, the decision to stick with it became easier.

My journey isn’t over. These 30 days were just a jumpstart to a year that is going to be full of goals and gains. I’m just thankful to all of the people who were part of helping me get off to a strong start, and I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for this opportunity and push that I needed.

What I have discovered is that it is never too late to take charge of your life and your health. After 30 days, I was down ten pounds! I lost inches off my arms, legs and bust. But I gained something too---self-confidence.

I’m looking forward to the rest of 2018 because I know now that there is so much more I can gain out of life.
