Zedric’s: Fit With Flavor

So if you play along on Instagram, you know that a big part of our feed is about food—specifically, we post A LOT about our love of Zedric’s: Fit With Flavor. These delicious, pre-portioned, chef-prepared meals make it easy for us to stay on track by taking the prep work and guesswork out of eating healthy. For me, it’s the perfect place to stock up on healthy snacks so I don’t hit the vending machine when the mid-afternoon munchies strike. For Wes--well his love of the Turkey Sweet Potato Picadillo for breakfast borders on obsessive! We caught up with owner Zach Lutton, a Uvalde, TX native who attended The Culinary Institute of America in New York, and asked him to share a little bit about how Zedric’s: Fit With Flavor works—and how it can work for you.

BA: When did you open Zedric’s: Fit With Flavor and why?

ZL: I opened in November of 2010. I was really into Crossfit, and was prepping meals for myself, which gained a ton of interest from my workout buddies. Before I knew it, I was cooking for up to 20 customers on a Sunday while working as an Executive Chef at Compass Group USA.

BA: Who is the Zedric's customer?

ZL: Our customers include everyone from busy individuals to elite athletes, people who want to lose weight, and people who simply want a convenient way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. BA:Is the food prepared fresh daily?

ZL: Yes. We cook and prep seven days a week

BA: Who creates the recipes?

ZL: Executive Chef Daniel Dirmeyer. He came to us after 11 years at Biga on the Banks. He’s a great guy with a ton of passion, and he does an amazing job!

BA: What is the focus of the menu?

ZL: We like to keep changing it up, and offer several different cuisines to keep the food interesting. With paleo, gluten-free, low-carb, low sodium, vegetarian and soy-free options, we can accommodate a variety of lifestyles. Our main focus, however, is to make great tasting food that's good for you.

BA: How often does the menu change?

ZL: We add one to two new menu items weekly

BA: What is the most popular item?

ZL: The Turkey Ragu! It’s made with ground turkey, Italian sausage, mushrooms, spinach, and onions, and it’s served with our house made marinara, which is naturally sweetened with carrots. We serve it over roasted spaghetti squash.

BA: What is the cost compared to eating out or buying groceries?

ZL: Many of our customers feel that we are a better value, and we definitely save you more time since you do not have to shop or meal plan. Our five-day complete package, which includes five breakfasts, 10 entrees, and 10 snacks, starts at $135.

BA: Do you have nutritionists who can help customers create a meal plan?

ZL: Our sales associates all have been trained on how to create meal plans and can help our guests choose the right plan based on their own unique personal goals and dietary requirements.
