The Full Monty: I love wearing tights to the gym on days when my legs are sore because the compression supports my muscles when they’re feeling fatigued. Not to mention brands like NIKE have stepped up their designs when it comes to what they offer for men. However, more often than not, men's tights are not meant to be worn without shorts as an overlay because well, let’s just say they leave little to the imagination. There is a time and place to proudly display your “package," but the gym isn’t one of them. If you have a pair of tights that feature mesh material around the crotch area, then that's a clue that they aren't meant to be worn by themselves---it’s there for breathability.

Freeing The Nipple: Typically I’m not an advocate for censorship, but when it comes to wearing muscle tanks that are the equivalent of a pair of shoe laces, that’s where I draw the line. I don’t see the point of wearing a “top” that basically let’s it all hang out----you might as well go shirtless. We know you work hard on your body and you want to display it as much as possible, but try and be a little bit classier and draw positive attention rather than just attention.

If It’s Yellow Let It Mellow: After a long day at the office nothing feels better than putting on gym clothes and getting a great workout in. I know that when pressed for time, some men think that wearing the undershirt they wore at work all day is acceptable gym attire. But allow me to let you in on a secret---it’s not! A lot of the offenders I’ve seen are typically wearing what was once a white tank or t-shirt that is now off-white or even yellow in areas that are prone to sweat, aka around the armpits and neck line. It only takes a minute to grab another shirt, throw it in your gym bag, and change in the locker room.

The Wrong Thong : Okay ladies, what you wear “down there” matters when it comes to today’s trendy tights. Before you head out the door---do a quick check in the mirror. Bend over and make sure your undies aren’t sticking out of the waistband, that the fabric isn’t so thin that it becomes see through when you are in down dog, and that the tights aren’t so tight that they are riding up in the wrong places---you know what I’m talking about.

The Full Face: I’m not a huge fan of heavy makeup, period---but especially not at the gym. First, no one wants to see towels with makeup streaks all over them, and second, your skin can’t breathe with your “full face” on. I’m not saying you have to go au natural, but a swipe of waterproof mascara, a hint of cream blush, and a light layer of gloss is plenty. You don’t really need your full set of faux lashes, extreme highlighter, winged eyeliner and other “extras.” I know that many of us have to hit the gym straight from work, but take a second to at least wipe off your foundation so your pores don’t get clogged while you sweat.

Fit Your Bits: We know you work hard on those bodies and want to show them off—and we say “hell yeah!” But whether you are size 2 or a size 22, fit is everything. It’s not about your size, it’s about your body type and your comfort. Tights that are cutting off your circulation in the middle are not flattering on anyone, plus they are super limiting when it comes to performance. Same with sports bras—if you are on the smaller end, you want to make sure that when you bend over, your bra doesn’t gap. If your cups runneth over, you will need a bra that offers enough support to keep you from bouncing out of control. And make sure you check yourself from every angle. “Side spillage” and “back boob” are unflattering and uncomfortable. Sports bras with adjustable straps can keep everything in place.
